Default 1998 convertible rear speaker removal

Can someone tell me how to get the rear speaker out. I pulled the cover off the rear speakers and it BROKE. I figure that the interior panel must need to come out (similar to the door skin) but i cant seem to get it to remove. I know there are three pins but there must be a few i'm missing because i cant get it off. 6.50 or 5.25 size speakers. remember this is a convertible.

Thanks for the help

UNlatch the bottom of the back seat, un bolt the backing to the back seat. Remove the door sill, unscrew the screw on the back of the panel and Lift the entire panel out of place.

The rear seat bottom piece has 2 latches, one on the left on on the right. They are about 8in from the endges of the seat. Personally I feel along the bottom of the seat to find the hard part and I know thats where the latch is. I slide the flat head in horizontal and when I find the latch I turn it vertical and apply pressure. Do this on each side then break out the sockets.

Yup, its not a hard thing to do. Locating the latches is the hardest part. The back is only held in by 2 bolts then you just LIFT it out.

The Mach 460 amps are behind it, along w. the vert. pump.

Thanks Rider! were you able to get bigger speakers in the rear or did you go with the original 6.50 or 5.25 size?

I believe theyre 6.25. I went with Infinity reference mids because theyre low pro which is whats needed but I would recommend getting subs because they lack the bass. Dont waste money on mids with tweeters because the mids only produce bass not highs, theres tweeters for that. As for bigger speakers, it wasnt possible, the rear mids and tweeters are held in an enclosure and ever getting the reference speakers in I had to drill into the enclosure.

My advice, go to crutchfield and find what you like, "Outfit" you car. Then go to onlinecarstereo.com and order the parts from there.
