From the knowledge I have of friends having them you have to wire a lot of the kits in to your e-brake so the video function won't work unless the e-brake is pulled. On that same note though, most of them say that on their particular vehicles (A Camaro and Lancer) if you pull the e-brake to just the first notch it allows the video player to be used without actually activiting the brake.

The NAV units on most aftermaret stereos work pretty well from what I've seen. Regarding being able to watch movies or use the Nav while driving you can take the lead that marked to be wired to the e-brake and either ground it or on some units like Pioneer you take the lead to a toggle switch on one side and the other you run to a ground, flip the switch up/down one time and you'll be in business, that is what I just did for mine. Basically you just trick it into "thinking" that the brake is set.

The only thing you need to watch with certain nav units is that they will use the GPS speed sensor to shut the DVD off or lock you out while in motion. Of course, there are ways around it via hacked firmwares and bypass kits depending on the aftermarket head unit you decide to go with.
