Default 2004 Mach 460 speaker troubles

Hey everyone.

My girlfriend has a 2004 GT convertable with (I think) the Mach 460 sound system. The only place it says "Mach" is on the front door tweeters.

So one of her front door speakers was obviously blown so i replaced both front door speakers with sony 5"x7" speakers i picked up at Best Buy. Now the front speakers only work intermittantly and ocassionaly make a poping/cracking sound.

Any thoughts about what to check next? I'm honestly not that familiar with the Mach system, just from searching on here and a few other sites.

Is it possible the resistance on the new speakers doesn't match what the old ones were and this is causing too much of a draw on the amps?

The first thing i would do is test voltage going in to the radio both from your accessories, and the voltage from your battery. Make sure when you test volatage that you have your key turned to accessories, and that you have your positive to the accessories power leg and that the negative is on the ground for your radio. I would check this first because sometimes having a poor ground can cause your radio to surge and work only some of the time making cracking noises.
