Default Audio problem with new kenwood dnx9140 installed.

Just finished installing my new kenwood excelon dnx9140 with the PAC harness from crutchfield. I figured id start with my deck and go from here with changing out everything else. Im having a problem though, whenever i go above 25 on volume with a cd or ipod playing the deck reboots itself almost like a failsafe mode idk. Ive been trying to tune it out just right and noticed this yesterday. I dont know the factory freq response on the speakers and subs to adjust my LPF and HPF. Called kenwood about this and they suggested i have a short somewhere..does this sound the most viable cause? or is it a setting issue?

all i have is a shaker 500 system with the kenwood deck. I like loud music but its always rebooting after i go above 25 on the volume, i have sound coming out of all the speakers and subs..

I dont really want to bring it somewhere and pay 50 bucks an hour to troubleshoot this lol..

thanks for any tips.

Normally, when you turn the volume up, and the deck cuts out...the issue is a bad ground.

Make sure your power and ground connections are very secure, and that you are getting full battery voltage at the harness. If the issue persists, suspect a bad ground, and try grounding the cd player directly to the metal dash frame and see if that solves the problem.

Default ok

Thanks for the tip, i will try this out tomorrow. I noticed that the ground wire on my deck is a higher gauge than the PAC harnesses ground. Also i should be seeing 12VDC at the connector correct? the wire is labeled for 12V. I will ground the wire from the deck to the cage around the deck and tape off the ground from the harness since it wont be used anymore.

Another thing I would suggest is checking the manual to ensure that your Kenwood doesn't require a direct connection to the battery. The manual for my fiancee's Clarion DXZ785USB specified that one of those power wires should go directly to the battery due to the high output amplifier in the head unit. Of course, it wasn't necessary because I am only using two of the channels for rear fill since her door speakers and subwoofer have their own amplifiers.

As pointed out by 8MSBHVN, the ground can be an issue if you used the grounding wire in the factory harness. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, and there is no rhyme or reason as to why.
