Default Aftermarket Tachs...wiring question

Do all aftermarket tachs require a tach adapter for use with stock ignition?

I have a Mallory tach that I'm trying to connect to an '87 coupe converted to 302 carb. I'm using the duraspark system.

Just wondering if a tach adapter is necessary. I haven't tried it in fear of destroying the tach. I've read that I need to connect the trigger to the (-) side of the coil. But, i'd assume that would be the blank side? The coil I have has a <BAT> wording and the other side of the coil is blank.

Anyone help me out?

You should not need a tach adapter... Just follow the instructions. It's a very simple install.
