Hey y'all,

Sorry if these questions are stupid. I have a 1998 3.8L Mustang Coupe that i am planning to replace the stereo & speakers in. I know there are countless topics on stereo removal & install, but i can't seem to find an answer. The problem i have is i am not quite sure what exact sound system i have in my car. I know that i don't have the mach 460 system that was offered in the mustangs(my relative has a cobra of the same year with the MACH system). I have heard talk of a premium sound option that was available, but im not sure if thats what i have, or if that's the same thing as the MACH system. What i've got is a AM/FM tuner with cassete deck in the top, and below it is a separate CD player. From what i understand, there was also a basic option that was just AM/FM tuner.
The other problem i have, is im not sure what dash kit and wire harness to use to replace the factory stereo with my new Kenwood head unit. any help would be greatly appreciated

Ask a local car sound enhancing what you got a far as speakers. They're familiar whether or not it's stock or something else with any mustang.

Well, that does all depend on where you live as well. =/

My son has a 1998 GT and we found all the wiring harness conversions at PACAudio.com. We removed his existing head unit and CD player and installed a Pioneer unit using the factory MACH sound system. We also added some subs to it. They make it very easy to work with the factory wiring. I added the Sub woofer system that comes with the Shaker 1000 system to my Shaker 500 system in my 2008 GT. It was easy.

ok. i've since realized i simply have the "premium" audio setup. Thanks for the input guys!
