yeah you should be able to use it in something else. the only real difference in auto and marine decks are that the marines are usually water proof. so if you put your mustang radio in the boat you will want to put it in the cabin or just where water cant get to it.

I worked at one of the largest Four Winns and Crownline boat dealership in Dallas, Tx for 2 summers. I will tell you an interesting fact! There are very few true marine stereo's that come brand new in boats. This is why they have the protective case with a front sheild. Any car stereo will work just fine. They come new with them.

Don't expect a regular car dek to last more than 1-2 years in a boat. People get pissed off when you tell them that the deck has water damage and they have no warranty.

This is true...but like I have told many other people...boats, especially ski and bass type boats, and stereo don't mix. Just the elements in general take toll.

But any radio will work and you can buy a 'marine cover' [plastic hinged door]. And like the guy above said...no warranty for water damage.

As long as you don't spray the deck down with water your not going to have a problem. Like I said before I worked 2 summers at a Boat Dealership. I have a sony deck in my boat that the wash guys accidently soaked and they had to replace it. Let it dry out for 3 days and it works fine. It's been in my boat for 2 years now. NO PROBLEMS! Just have a marine stereo plastic enclosure.

XM is awesome on the lake, that way you don't have to change cd's all the time when your trying to party it up lol
