Default Mach 460 CD player

I have a 97 Gt with a Mach 460 system.
AM/FM cassette with the CD as a separate unit mounted below radio
The CD stopped working
I am told that the CD has to be repaired or replaced with the same
type unit.
To replace the whole system with aftermarket unit means that
I would have to replace the speakers and rewire the entire car.
Is this true.?
How much should it cost to repair or replace the CD unit?

You can re-use the stock speakers , you will just have to wire them up is all

If you want to continue to use the Mach 460 I would just look for a used one on Ebay...I sold one on there a few months ago. But there are usually a regular number of these units on Ebay.

If you want to scrap the Mach 460 head units and go with an aftermarket headunit that can be done...and you would only have one head unit and say a pocket beneath it. There are plugs that adapt aftermarket head units to the Mach 460.

If you want to scrap the entire Mach 460 system...I would start by removing all speakers, amps, rear enclosure, etc. I would leave the wiring harness unless you're up to removing it. I would not attempt to rewire the OEM speakers...they have special plugs that you would have to salvage.
