Default Headlights wont work......HELP

I have an 87 5.0 GT and the headlights dont work. I push the top switch for the parking lights, they work along with the tail lights. I push the bottom button and I get nothing. During the few short drives I've made after dark in it I have had to pull the low/high switch all the way back. In that position, they work. You know what I mean, there is the forward position that it stays in and the back position that it'll stay in, but then there is the position when you pull it all the way back and I guess you get low and high beams but as you let go, it goes back to the back position. So in the regular low and high beam positions, my lights dont work. And let me tell you, trying to shift gears, steer, use the blinker and try to hold your lights on at the same time is not an easy task. Any ideas one whats wrong and how I can fix it? Thanx

I would start by replacing the headlight switch...the entire switch.

I had the same problem on my car . I replaced the turn signal / wiper/ high/low beam switch . They run about 55 bucks at mustangs unlimited . I would bet you could get one from auto zone or something too .
