My mustang's battery died while at the glass shop and the factory keyless remote system has not worked since the car battery was replaced. We thought at first that the remote batteries went dead as well, but replacing them did not help. My dad has gotten enough information from the local Ford place to know that there is a series that has to be done to reprogram the system, but cannot get the entire thing. He's been told one thing and then they've said that something else needed done also. Does anybody know what the entire series is?? I'm really tired of not being able to use my remote, it's currently just another keychain. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Check out V6 lounge "things I would like to know" Someone there has the know how. I'm almost positive the sequence is the same for all ford's. I used to work at stereo shop and it's usually always the same key on/off sequence and press the button sort of thing. Hope this helps.
i think the sequence was something like turn the key on, hold down the loack but and then switch from Key off to key on 5 times. Thats how i got it to work in my explorer. only took like 5 seconds to program it.

This should work for the Mustang as well.

I'm surprised the Ford dealer didnt offer to program it for you. When I bought my car in November mine was missing and the delaer I bought the replacement from did it right there in the parking lot.

I am not sure for your car, but for my '98 GT, I had to pull asside the lining on the left side of the trunk, down with the tail light wires there is a 2 prong connector with nothing connected to it. With the encoded key in the ignition and it turned to the on position (one click, not started), you have to short the two pins in the connector to eachother. I used a paper clip. The doors with lock and then unlock automatically. Then push any of the buttons on the remote and the doors will lock and unlock again. Then take the key out of the ignition, and the doors will lock and unlock again, this tells you it is programmed right. Hop out of the car and try it... it should work now.
Sounds like you don't have the owner's manual. Our '00 has quite an extensive procedure to reprogram this item. We didn't get all factory supplied manuals when we bought our used vehicle. I went here...
and registered with our VIN. I was able to download both the owner's manual and the service manual. If you don't have your manuals I'd strongly suggest this method. It's free, and you'll need those manuals again sometime.
I have currently reprogrammed all of my remotes i have the instruction sheet for most fords, and it varys depending on what remote and your car. Contact me and i will try and help you out so you can escape the high fee at the dealer ship.

I recently had to replace the RKE transmitter for my '96 and spent a lot of time on-line searching out the answer to your question. I can't remember where I found it but here is the procedure:
Turn ignition to RUN or ACC. Momentarily jump pins in programming connector located in left rear quarter panel area. All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. Press any button on 1st transmitter. Door locks will lock then unlock to confirm programming. Press any button on 2nd transmitter (up to 4 transmitters total possible). The door locks will lock then unlock to confirm programming. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
The programming connector has a yellow and gray/yellow wire attached and only has two pins. You'll know it when you see it. This worked for me on my '95 cougar as well.
