Default Question about battery connections

When I got my sound system installed, they replaced my one big battery with two smaller "special" batteries. I now would like to go back to having only one battery. Can I just connect one set of the positive and negative cables to my one battery and disconect the other set? Or do I have to buy a different thicker set of cables? Hope this makes sense.

it wouldnt hurt to use thicker cables as long as you do use too thick!!!

Everything is connected to these two batteries just like to a normal batttery. Only difference is that there are two sets of positive and negative cables right now, one set to each battery. What makes them "special" is that they are supposedly better for cars with big sound systems.

Yes you can use the existing cables. The cables you are using now will supply the same current to your sound system regaurdless of battery size, number, or amp capacity.

In other words your not changing current flow which is what the cables handle.

Thanks for the replies. So then I could just disconnect one set and use the other? Also, what Optima battery would you guys recommend for best performance (sound system and car performance)? Either Yellow Top or Red Top?

I'm using a blue...got a great deal on it. I think the Yellow has a higher amperage rating than my blue. If you use your sound system a lot while not running the car a deep cycle has some benefits, but IMHO price should be the determimg factor on which Optima to buy.

I've had alot of luck with the red tops in my other car, but as tominator said, with optima's they are all good, just go for price
