Kick panel speaker placement - good or bad idea?

Has anyone placed their speakers in the kick panels? How do they sound and how does it affect driving? I have an automatic, so I don't have a clutch pedal to worry about, but I don't think I would have access to the dead pedal. Thanks.

I have Qlogic kick pods w/ 5.25 components...they sound great due to enhanced imaging over standard speaker locations. But they take up quite a bit of room in the floorboard. If you have an automatic you shouldn't be concerned w/ space. But if you have a manual and have a shoe size larger than say....10...you might not want to go this route.
