Default Replaced Mach 460 speakers with Pioneers

Hey guys,

I wasnt satisfied with the factory Mach 460 speakers so I've replaced the 6" X 8" units with the Pioneer replacements (TS-A6870R). This includes the two in the doors and the rear shelf. I did the rears first and then tested them. Immediately, my old right front 6X8 had sound, but had a lot of static almost like the speaker was blown. I then installed the new fronts and the problem went away and sounded great for a few minutes but then I noticed if I turned the volume up about midway with the bass turned up about midway, the bass will suddenly go out or the midrange will go out until I turn the power off for a few minutes. As soon as I turn it back on, it sounds great for a minute or two, then the same thing happens. Things just randomly go out then come back.

Have I damaged the amps somehow hooking a speaker up wrong?

Are these speakers compatible with the Mach 460 system?

I had to replace a blown rear amp when I bought my car back in November. I feel like sh*tcanning the Mach 460 amps (made in china btw) and headunit and putting in aftermarket stuff.

Any ideas?

ok...heres the deal. in my 97 gt i had the mach 460. the first thing i did was change the headunit(this requires a special harness by the way). that improved the overall sound. the next thing was change the 6x8s in all 4 corners (just like you). i quickly realized the stock 6x8s had WAY more bass. the stocks are really acutally "subwoofers" not just 2 way or 3 ways. so i reinstalled the stock speakers. my next move (after installng a 12" Solobaric and ppi amp) was buying a Kicker 6x8 component set for the front. i installed the 6x8s in the doors and the tweeters i installed in the tweeter pods in the upper door, wiring all the speakers to another ppi amp. after the install, the tweeters started to fade in and out (i have no clue why). so i reinstalled the factorytweets in the pods and installed the kickerr tweets in behind the center air vents (a really cool idea). it sounds incredible now. To get a total understanding on howthe mach 460 go to www.flemwworld.com all amps are made by FORD..

I didnt know Kicker made 6 X 8s or I would have gone with those. Not that it would have help my anemic system. I'm gonna pull the mach system, install an mp3 player and amp, run all new wiring and while I'm at it I'm gonna dynamat the whole car.

The mach systems are made by Visteon, a supplier to Ford (my cousin is an engineer with Visteon). I dont know if everybody's are, but my amps say made in china. See the crappy webcam image i've attached.

Mach460 amps are 6-8 ohm.

Aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm.

Connecting aftermarket speakers to Mach460 amps loads the amps too much, thus causing them to cut out.

That's what you'd think but I'm fairly sure they're both 4 ohm speakers based on the spec sheet on the 6870s and some assumed reliable info on the mach 460 systems. I checked before I bought the speakers.

Ummm, yeah. The Pioneer's ARE 4 ohm.

Your Mach460 system is NOT.

There is no way around it.

I want to believe you. What are you basing this info on? Did you measure it somehow?

ok, here's the deal. try installing a 2 ohm resistor in series with each speaker, make sure the resistor is rated to handle whatever power each individual speaker will be drawing. This won't raise the impedance of the speaker itself, but the total impedance of the load on that channel of the amp will be what it's made to handle. Therefore, the amp won't cut in and out on you. Or you could go get some 8 ohm speakers, which are fairly common and not hard to get on the market. Either of these should take care of your problem.

HEY EVERYONE PLEASE REPLY TO THIS. I got a convertible 00 gt and i was going to buy some 6x8 today and before i did I poped off the speaker grill in the back. (busted the little tabs ), and they are circular speakers like 5 1/4 inch...everyone I asked said they are 6x8?????? or us that only for the coupe.....also I read instruction on a website how to remove the panels and it said to lift up the rear seats and expose some tabs, the rear seat dont budge with alot of force....im afraid if i pull too hard it will bust something

Yes I did, it looks like good instruction but I go in and try to remove the rear seats and I am pulling up on them pretty damn hard and they dont budge...I dont want to pull tooo hard and bust something...it said to lift and remove the rear seat bottoms and the part you lean back on...then the panels should come right off with a couple screws....is this true, do i just have to pull up the seats really really hard? I do not want to bust them

can u get to the 5 1/4" speaker just thru the grill? I tried to take one off and busted a couple of the plastic snaps

thanks!

I'm having troubles wiring a new head unit into my mach system in a 02 GT. I could use some help if anyone has done this before.

RED3, you need to buy a special harness that is used to bypass the factory amps. its available at most car audio stores and best buy, circuit city etc. hope this helps

You can also buy a Scosche head unit adapter at wal-mart for $10. Model #FDK10. I have used them before and they work fine.
