Ok guys, Ive been thinking about this for some time now...I put in a kenwood excelon head unit and ran a special hardness in the back to bypass the mach 460 amplifiers. Do you all think that i can now remove the stock amplifiers or is there going to be gobs and gobs of re-wiring to do.
My stereo shop gave me this harness to pass the amps in order for the head unit wattage to power the stock speakers....apparently head unit wattage and amp watts are too much. I guess i might just have to start tearing sh** out to see what all is going on in the trunk.
What do you all think?

The rear amps just unplug. I would leave them mounted if you can bypass them. They're not hurting anything just hanging there and it keeps them from getting lost/stolen/borrowed.
I would also remove as little factory wiring as possible. You might need to sell your car in the future and it would no doubt bring more with the factory sound system in it. I dont care how nice an installation it is, it scares the hell out of me when i see a car thats been stripped and rewired. Run new wiring sure but leave the original in it as unmolested as possible.
I'd like to know where I can get one of those bypass harnesses you mentioned.

theres a radio shop in kentucky (louisville and lexington) called OVATION. Im not sure if they're like a chain or just spedific to here. Ill have to climb in my trunk and see what all they did cause i had a free install with my new stereo. If i can tell whats going on (where this harness is). Ill let you know and give you a contact or find out what a part number is....but it seems pretty cool to bypass the amps so i can power it myself with the head unit.

i believe the harness you 2 are referring to plugs in behind the radio. its about a $25 piece and you NEED one to install an aftermarket radio (unless you are a rocket scientist). i had one in my 97 gt and will soon have one in my 98 cobra

that harness is just the wiring harness to plug the aftermarket stereo into the wiring for speakers and power into the car. That piece just makes life and installation easier. Im talking about another wiring harness that bypasses the speaker wiring into the amps. I believe it was 75 dollars. If i have a chance, i will get in my car and take a pic of it either this weekend or next week sometime. Basically it makes the amps in the back hanging weights and thats it. But i do agree with removing them and it possibly ruining a resale value. I would re-install them before selling.

yes, i am referring to the same piece you are. i only paid about $25. im not talking about the $9.99 radio harness for a honda civic. the harness im talking about has a couple of switches on it too. mine was installed behind the radio and bypassed the 4 factory amps.
