Unless you have an aftermarket head unit you will have to buy some piece that takes the signal and converts it to be used by the amplifier. I would call a reputable car stereo shop where you live as they should know what piece you need. Also, if you change head units you will need another piece like that to install it. Don't just hook up the aftermarket head unit with the little wiring kit. It will kill the factory amps.

I had a 94 explorer with the premium sound system. It had 6X8s front and rear and a factory sub in the cargo area. I installed a 200 watt Sony MP3 head unit and used an adapter harness. The Sony's output was amplified so basically I was sending an amplified signal to an amplifier. It sounded great, was really loud for what it was. The only drawback was when you tried to turn the volume down to carry on a conversation, it was either too loud or off. Even while muted you could hear slightly. And it was a little susceptable to noise as well. Maybe I was driving the factory amp too hard and causing that though, I dunno. But it sounded great and I drove that way for over a year and nothing ever burned up. Dont know if this applies the same to the mach 460s but they are similar to the system in my explorer. They use the same adapter plugs I know that for sure.

Maybe you cound send the aftermarket head units pre-amp signals to the factory amps and it wouldnt cause any problems.

go to the fuse box and find a power sorce that on while car is on and turns off when car is off, u can use that for a remote wire to your amp, it the easist way to do but not the best way to do, if u can get under the dash and find a wire that does the same thing tap into it and that will work

I went to Radio Shack and asked for a line level converter. There's one that's about 8 bucks and one that's 20 bucks. What you're wanting to do is change the signal to RCA...

My 02 came without the Mach system, so for me it was just a matter of tapping into the signal anywhere I could find it. Since the sub was in the back, I tapped into the rear speakers. (search for the radio wire colors online - I don't remember them offhand)

a remote lead and a power wire later, and you're set.

Keep in mind that stock speaker setups aren't designed for the extra bass of a sub - it will be out of phase from the other speakers, especially if you've run all aftermarket in the past and have gotten used to that broader sound spectrum.

IMHO, I think you should save a few hundred more bucks and get a good aftermarket head unit, with front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs. It allows for future expandability, cuts down on wiring time, and almost completely removes the guesswork involved.
