Question Does your alarm trip when the trunk is opened?

I have a Ford alarm in my car that was a dealer installed option. I opened the trunk while the alarm was active and it didn't set off the alarm. Is that normal? Should it?

What's the pre-arm mode for?

Yes! These factory alarms are weird. When I pop the trunk using the keyless remote, and the doors are locked, the alarm sounds. So I just hit the unlock button and it turns off. This is annoying but you have to unlock the doors before you pop the trunk.
Same with locking the doors when you are in the car before starting the engine. You can't lock the doors before starting the engine. Damn cars are too smart.

Man! I'm starting to hate Jordan Ford in San Antonio, TX more and more. My alarm doesn't trip when my trunk is opened. I really think it should.

Update: I called two different dealers. They both said the trunk and hood are not included in the factory alarm.

Looking back, I should have gone with an aftermarket alarm. I didn't realize an aftermarket alarm can tie into the Ford PATS and keyless remote fobs.

I once had someone try to pick my trunk (at work one day someone saw a guy kneeling down behind my car) after that the key wouldnt work on the trunk. I found the plastic housing that keeps a metal piece that sticks out the back of the lock mechanisim in place hanging from a cable on the trunk. I keep it off so that no matter what they cant pick it from now on. It is attached to a cable so it kinda dangles.....may want to remove and just use your trunk button in the car or on your keychain........just FYI

If they installed a factory approved alarm then it should go off when the interior lamps come on. I checked the one I installed in my 94 when new and it has that circuit. Do you know where the module was installed? My is under the shifter bezel and under the radio. There is a label on the module detailing what circuit is for which control or sensing circuit. They might not have hooked it up correctly or not at all. Alot of dealerships out source alarm installations.Does your system have a small red light/switch to turn on valet mode and indicate alarm is active? If you have that switch its most likely a factory approved system, doesn't have it its probably another aftermarket alarm.
