it IS "kind of" an alarm. my cars are the same way. pushing lock twice beeps the horn. that is , like it was said above, a beep to let you know your doors are locked. just locking you dorrs even maually will set your "alarm". i've only set mine off one way. i can go around and pull the door handles and/or shake the car ant the "alarm" will not activate. but get this, if i lock the car and pull the interior door handle ( like as if the window was down or i lock the doors with me in the car with car off) the alarm starts going off! isnt that kinda dumb, or is it just me? i mean a thief could smash the window and steal the car without even setting off the alarm. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright, thats a pretty sweet alarm, ha? the only thing thats stopping thieves is the chip in the key.

what year is your car? my 97 gt and my 98 cobra both have a chip in the key.
look at the top of your key, there should be a little square piece that is slid into the top. there's a chip in there for theft deterence. dont quote me, but i believe it started in 1996.

Yes, it is suppose to beep, but it's not an alarm.
Hey, I drive a 2001 Mustang and I know it's a remote with the panic button... but mine locks the doors and beeps twice when I press LOCK twice on the remote. Well, lately it has been beeping only once and I wanted to find out why wouldn't it beep twice again. So if anybody has any ideas why it's doing that, it would be a great help.
But, it should let you know your doors are locked and it tells you by the lights flashing and the brief "beep-beep" of the car's horn.
Yes, it is suppose to honk the horn but it's not an alarm.
well, I drive a 2001 MUSTANG and when I press twice the LOCK button on the remote, it locks the doors and briefly honks twice (Like a short beep-beep). Recently I have been having problems because the horn only beeps ONCE after I press LOCK twice. I think the way your car lets you know your doors are locked is by flashing the lights and honking the horn briefly. If anybody knows why mine is only beeping once, please let me know. I would like it to beep twice again, it's kind of cooler than just lights and a single beep like it's doing now.
But anyways, that's how your car lets you know your doors are locked. That doesn't mean you have an alarm, it just means your doors are locked and no (smart) thieves can get in.
