Hey all, Just wondering if anyone has installed a rear seat delete kit and installed subs into it?
I traded my buddy a nike driver for 2 - 12 inch 8 ohm JL audio subs in a JL box (box wont fit in my trunck) and a JL monoblock 250/1 amp. I want to use both subs if I can without having a box take up my entire trunk. Any ideas or suggestions? Going to gut the entire 2001s mach 460 garbage and go with all new equipment.....over time anyway.
Thanks in advance for any info.
James

Wouldn't you have to seal the entire trunk area, make it sound-tight for the bass to work? Plus, they'd have to be freeair subs, no?
I was thinking I would add to the back of the back piece of the seat delete to seperate the two and seal them, but would using both subs still take up alot of room? How do you think 1 of the 12s would sound?

just make 2 boxes , get some cardboard mess around withe the sizes, and go online and u can find a sub box caculator. i had 2 12 w3 in my trunk just had to do my own box.

to save space, how do you think just one of the subs would sound with the 250/1 sub amp? The subs are stored in my wifes trunk in the box (not hooked up) I believe they are 12w0-8, does that sound right? I do know they are 8 ohm.

I might do that, but I'm going to have my sub mounted to the back seat panel facing the front. Proly add on a box to the back in the trunk after the stock amp rack comes out. I've put a system in every car i've had, so why stop now, right?

i have had systems in all my stangs too. i wouldn't advise facing the subs towards the front of the car (especially mounted in the rear seat panel). bass is supposed to be reflected, not direct. so, the subs should face sideways or rear. but, to each his own. i'm just giving my opinions.

I completely agree with you, bass is "movement of air", although my 88 Camaro I had, had two 12s in a sealed box on the rear deck behind the back seat, and it sounded awesome. But i was looking to maybe use a bandpass box and cut a hole in the seat delete to just show the sub through the plexiglass, box supported...mounted in the trunk, with the vents in the trunk. Just something I was thinking about. Are all the rest of the speakers in the crap 460, 6x8.. with a 2.5 inch high range on the doors?
Thanks for the replies.

yes, the doors and rear deck have 6x8" "subwoofers" (that is what ford calls them, the 2 1/2" are for highs and mids supposedly).i dont think the convertibles have 6x8s in the back, i think they are 6 1/2". if you plan on swapping out the factory speakers, make sure you plan on buying amps to drive them. they dont sound right when you just replace the stock speakers.

I will definately be running an amp to power the 6 speakers, do you know of anybody that makes the 2 1/2 inch to replace the stock ones? Rear seat kit should be in the mail soon, then I will be able to see if a double 12 bandpass will fit, like half of the box through the seat with a nice amp rack. It looks really good in my head!

in my 97 gt i installed the following, this should start you with some more ideas. i had the 12" solobaric mounted in the sidfefiring box i built, powered by a 600 watt rf amp. i installed a kicker component set (6x8s and 1 1/2" tweets) i installed the 6 1/2s in the doors. the tweets were mopunted in the center console BEHIND the a/c vents. the a/c and heat still worked great and the vents still adjusted and swiveled. i was very slick and subtle. no one even noticed them in there. the upper speakers in the door i left in there. they sound very good when they are not being maxxed out. hope this helps a bit.

Would you recommend replacing the 6x8's with 6 1/2's or is that not possible? Haven't started tearing anything apart yet, so I havent seen what I have to play with.

i would just replace them with 6x8s (component's, of course) but it may be possible, i didn't really notice. what do you plan on instaaling in your car? a quick rundown would be good. i've done 5 systems in my stangs, so i can probably help ya out.

I dont plan on making a contest winner, just something that sounds better than it does. Probably just one of my JL 12's and the JL 250/1 mono sub amp, replacing the stock 6x8's powered by a decent 4 channel, and a new head unit, maybe Sony, have always had real good luck with them. Nothing real fancy...but a system I wont be embarassed for people to hear. Thank god for the Magnpacks...at least something sounds good for now. Thanks for all your suggestions!
