Angry Alpine Power Drain

I have an 84 Thunderbird 3.8. I've got a pretty powerful system with an Alpine CDA-9805 head unit, and old Craig Powerply(or play) 500 watt amp and 3 Jensen 10" subs in the trunk. I had the deck in my 86 Stang and in both rides it seems like the deck cant push the speakers very well. I want to be able to turn the volume up louder than 12 (even though its pretty loud) sometimes, but when the bass gets either to low or too high, the deck shuts itself off. I know it shuts off so it doesnt fry the thing but is there anything i can do to put more volume into my system without the deck turning off and possibly damaging itself? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I finally have a nice, powerful system but want to play it louder to show off a bit.
Thanks

You have a couple of options,

The deck is going into thermal shutdown from generating to much heat on the transistors. You can either put a fan on it for cooling, or try a larger/better ground. The factory harness if you are using it is good enough for the factory deck which usually have seperate amplifiers so they dont generate as much heat or pull alot of amperage. I would try a bigger ground directly to the battery first that seems to cure alot of problems as far as overheating. Behind the dash does not get alot of airflow and that is another issue as well thats why I said try a fan.

Thanks for the info. The deck does have a fan but I'm not positive if it runs. Ive never noticed it on when fiddling with it after its run, if its not running is there an easy way to get it working again? And also when it seems that the deck is pulling a lot of power the buttons dim down quite a bit. Is that from too much heat? It does it even right after the deck comes on.
Thanks again,
Sneado

If you don't already you should try a capacitor to take care of the dimming problem.

Im probably going to get a cap in the near future but I dont see how that would help the deck from draining/dimming. Has anyone else had the same or close to the same problem with Alpine or other companies?
Thanks

I was expirimenting with some new techniques and I might have figured it out. Could running the stock front speakers in my car be restricting the power or doing something to the deck because I switched all the power to my rear speakers which can handel up to 75 watts and I was able to put out more power without too much drain. Could that have been the problem?
Thanks

Your little amp in that deck does NOT need a capacitor, your sub amp may need one, but there is no way that the amp in the deck does. Anyway, yeah if your deck is inthermal dissarray, buttons will dim, lights will flash or go out...Lots can happen. If it has an internal fan, and its not working I would take it somwhere and see if theyll fix, dont risk screwing it up yourself as it will be very difficult to not ruin it. If it is not goin into thermal shutdown though, you need a new, more powerful deck, or an amp for your component speakers.

I know that the deck doesnt need a cap. Ive never heard of one needing one. I think that my problem though is that it was trying to squeeze too much power to the front speakers which are too small. Ever since Ive switched all my power to my rear speakers, it hasnt had any problems so far.
Thanks for the feedback
