Default Replacing Stock Head with Kenwood..

Ok everyone go easy on me here.. I don't know much about audio systems. just that I don't like the Mach 460 in my 2001 Cobra.. I had a 2001 Stratus RT before my cobra and it had the stock 7 speaker infinity system in it and it rocked.

I want to change out the head unit because I hate these 6-disc in dash systems. I want the same wattage, but I do want to improve bass, like adding a 10 in the back. what all do I need when replacing the head unit and to eventually put a 10" sub in, in the future?

I don't understand all of what I need when I change the head unit. The say that I will have to replace the stock amps with aftermarket ones when changing the headunit, well what amps should I get? and should I just keep the stock speakers?

any info would help..

yes, you can still use the stock amps. you need to buy a device that wires inbetween your new radio and the stock harness. its got a bunch of "slide switches" on it.most car audio place will have it in stock in "the back room", as well as best buy or circuit city will have it to. this device allows your aftermarket radio to work with the mach 460 amps and speakers. if you just wired your new radio to the stock speakers, they would not sound right! those speakers are a different ohm rating than most radios/amps. go to www.flemworld.com to see a bunch of mach 460 and mach 1000 info. good luck, hope this helps! let us know how it all turns out. your best bet would be to take it to a car audio store (not best buy or circuit city) and have them install everything for you. it'll save you a headache.

thanx for the info.. so if I decide to keep the stock 460 speakers, and change the head unit what should I look for in a head unit if I want to add a 10" in the back or a powered sub?

a dedicated subwoofer output on the menu of the radio. this option allows you to turn up the bass on the sub without turning up the bass on the mach 460 speakers. this will keep them from "popping" or even blowing. if you plan on possibly adding more amps, then you will want 2 or more amp inputs on the back of the radio (looks like rca jacks). but i think the mach 460 really aren't all that bad. they just need the extra bass. it's also good to buy a radio that plays CDr's and mp3's. jvc makes a pretty nice head unit, and you get a lot for what you pay.
