I bought my 96 gt a week ago and the previous owner modded the blinkers somehow. The blinkers (front and cluster display) go at 1/3 the normal speed, but the rear lights do a seperate fire for each bulb in order from the inside to the outside. Kind of like a phase shift deal? I've never seen the mod before, and it does look pretty cool, but I'd like my front blinkers to go normal speed.
Does anyone know how the mod is done and how I can get it back to do what it did from the factory? It needs to pass inspection and it's not very safe.
it is a sequencel tail light mod.you could try to ask the previous owner which manufacturer they used. but to speed them up you could try a stock flasher. that might be to fast of a flash. if thet is the case get another heavy duty unit and tweak the contacts to change the duration of the flash.

The car was bought by a dealer at an auction, so I have no idea, nor does the dealer, who the previous owner was. When you say try a stock flasher, do you mean the stock flasher unit? The piece that plugs in under the driver's side dash?
yes. he means the flasher under the dash. all the blinkers are on a complete circuit. so, your front blinker wont blink until your taillight blink one full "sequence". changing the flasher may make the front flash faster, but the rears will "sequence" faster too. and it will look DUMB. too fast and it will be giving people behind you seizures. just keep it the way it is. i had sequential tails in my old 97 gt and they are in my 98 cobra too. i love 'em!

I love the way they look too. The only thing is that with the fronts blinking so slow and the brightness difference when they do flash is low makes it unsafe in my opinion. I doubt it will pass inspection too.
it will pass inspection with no problem. i dont know why the blinker would be dimmer than stock though....try another type of bulb maybe.

12 volts is 12 volts. Change the bulbs if they seem dim. I know of no laws that state how fast the blinkers gotta flash. I recall MANY a 50's and 40's vehicles that flash tremendously slower than today's cars. They are all still legal in all 50 states.
Just cause it ain't stock, don't make it illegal...........good thing, or the modification industry wouldn't exist.
Sequential rear tail lights hark back to the 60's T-Bird. Your mod (whether you like it or not) pay homage to that phat ride of yesteryear. If they aren't timing right, I don't blame you for being unhappy.

If you still want to know, this is where the mod might have come from.
I have it on my yellow 98gt if you look at the pics mine is the one by the mustang police station.
