aftermarket stereo equipment, how is your's set up?
Has anybody come up with some magic way to hide stereo components in a Mustang?
I have a 12 disc changer, amp & bass tube. These are all installed in the hatch (disc changer surface mounted on one side, tube on the other, amp mounted vertically on the back of one of the seats).
I need to reorganize my hatch sometime this summer because it's still a mess from when some scumbag busted out the back window & swipe the amp, and was wondering if anybody could provide some advice on doing it in another manner other than the obvious.

I have a design for the fox hatchbacks that will allow me to store stuff and hide a second battery in the back. It is designed to allow me to fit 2 10" subs, 2 6"x9" or 2 4" compontents (not sure which yet), and my two amps. Then it has storage area for future upgrade of a disc changer and hold my tools and such that I may carry around. I also hope to adapt it to allow access to my spare tire.
If you want to see this design, look in my gallery for the cad renderings. If you like and want the dimension that I have roughed out let me know.

This all depends on your skills. Though U may still have some one try to steal your stuff. but the hardit is to get out the less likely they are to steal it. I personaly like to bolt my amp racks to the body. This makes it very time consuming to steal but then that would be a lot of work to make a amp rack for your amp to power a bass tube it would look funny. I will give ya an example of how my system is set up.
I started with the sup encloser. I made it out of Fiberglass, Bondo, and MBF Board. This replaced the Spare Tire. I have a dual teir amp rack mounted on MBF Board that is bolted to the body. My Cap and Nos bottle are on the sides. This is all tided together with lots of Fiberglass and bondo and covered in Plexy with fans and vent hole on both sided. It took me a very long time and a bit of money but I am not really worried that any one is gonna steal it becuase of the fact that it would take entirely to long to get my out of the trunk.
I have a 90 convertible lx. I'm in the process of installing a system now. The subwoofer and amps are not as hard to hide as you think. You could use the spare tire well for a custom enclosure. I'm using a Pioneer Premier TS-SW124D 12" sub. It is only 4" thick, it weighs 19lbs and hit likes a regular 12". I''m, making a custom box to fit under the convertible well. It only needs 0.6-1.0 cubic feet of air space. Just search around and you will find what you are looking for, don't just buy what everyone else has.

I agonized over this exact thing in my 2000 Conv. (You guys with coupes have it licked...the convertible takes up the space behind the back seat so it is a PITA)
I put a JVC Headunit in w/a small kenwood EQ in a pocket under the Headunit. 6X8 Pioneer 3 ways all around in the factory locations w/Infinity tweeters in the front door sail panels. 1 Alpine 12" sub in a sealed (A sealed box is smaller and fits in the trunk through the trunk opening...and gives nice tight Bass with enough power to drive it) Q Logic box in the trunk.
2 100 watt Sony amps mounted on a piece of plywood on either side of the convertible pump motor for the interior speakers mounted behind the rear seat. 1 Profile 300 watt amp mounted to the sub box in the trunk.
Velcro stapled all over the bottom of the box and it stays put where I set it in the trunk. I left the leads long enough so if I have to change a tire, I can remove it and get the tire out. If I didn't care about loosing the spare, I would have done away with the box and mounted the 12 in the well with some plywood as it is about perfect volume wise for a 12. Note, I also disconnected the trunk "popper" switch in the glove box so if someone did break in they wouldn't be able to open the trunk easily and remove this whole unit.
Personally if I had a hatch, I would tint the back hatch glass BLACK to keep nosey MF's from seeing what I had.
I had this enclosure made for my 2 10" subwoofers on my 2005. You can't see them, but one 4 channel amp and one 2 channel amp mounted on the underside of the rear deck.
azguy, that setup looks pretty chessey to me. it doesn't even match the trunk carpet.

how can you disconnect that trunk popper...I have an 03 Mach 1 with my amp screwed into the rear of the back seats, with a 12" sealed box velcroed in right underneath the amp rack of the Mach 460...also, is there any way to stop the back seats from being folded down...not on a permanent level, but just so that you can can't pull them down from inside the car
I guess it would be a little pointless for me to even disconnect the popper since you can still just pull back the back seats down and reveal everything, so I want to do both to my car

I don't know about the seat thing (And I own a vette now...miss my Stang though!) but just unplug the wires from the back of the button in the glovebox. The switch will come out to make it easier just by prying on it a little and it's totally reversible.
