Default Sound System Help

I'm buying a 1999 Mustang tomorrow. The car has the stock radio and the stock speakers still in it. I want to upgrade the sound system but do not have a bunch of money to spend. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can upgrade the sound system in it right away, but not spend too much money? How about just putting more powerful speakers in it, but leaving the stock stereo in it to save money for right now until I get more money? As you can probably tell, I am a newbie when it comes to car sound systems.

Going for more powerful speakers wouldnt be a good idea before getting yourself a new headunit the speakers will be under powered. if you dont want to spend to much look into kenwood they got some good decks for under $200. and for some decent speakers take a look at the Alpine type S there good speakers and the price has went down on them since i got them so they are a good buy for a low budget.
