Default want to remove cd player from mach 460

I have a 94 GT with the mach 460. This setup has a cassette at top and cd player at bottom. Some time ago my cd player quite working. If I remove the player I have no sound from the radio. If I plug in the square grey wire harness then my sound comes back on. How would I go about removing this unit and retaining sound? At one point I used a Sony cd player in place of the cassette and removed both factory units and it worked fine. Anyone have any knowledge with this?

I have a 95 Gt with only the cassette player(460). When i finally added the facory sony c/d unit i noticed a plug in the back of the head unit, top slot(output to c/d unit). It must have been soldered inside to complete the circuit for the speakers, when i unplugged it, No Sound! When i added the C/D unit with the new grey harness plugs, one plug to the output of cassette player, other to input of C/D player, everything works so the audio circuit was complete. Thats why when you plug in your audio harness, even if your C/D unit does't work, you are still completeing the audio circuit.Try getting one end of the grey plug, cut it expose the wires, pair them up, plug it in the cassette player and see if that works. you need one of the jumper plugs. these are required if you no longer will use your cd player. typically, i see them sold on ebay with the head units that originally didn't come with the cd player (such as explorers, taurus, probes, etc.)

Hey retired, I'm trying to do what you appear to have done. MY 94 came w the Mach 460 system but not the CD player. I got the CD player off Ebay and am now trying to install it. Got any pointers on wiring and installation?

Default wire harness

Make sure you have the mach 460 sound system, not the premium sound system, theres a difference.

With both cassette player and c/d player out, look into cassette player opening. You should have a factory grey 2 inch wide grey plug(power). Also a smaller 1 inch wide grey factory plug(audio) Okay so far?. Now the fun starts. Get back on e-bay, 94-2000 stang cassette players and c/d players, same place you bid on your c/d player. Wait for someone selling Mach 460 wire harness, power and audio, either year Taro electronics has them, thats where i got mine and there on e- bay a lot. Mine came in four days, complete. You can,t make a mistake plug away,it takes about 5 minutes to do.Don,t forget anttena and black ground clips.

I have the Mach 460. I ended up removing unit and replacing it with a sony cd player that I have. I used an aftermarket harness to plug it in and it works fine. However, I am dealing with a lot of interference problems.
