Default Getting through the firewall for amp power

I'm about to start installing an amp for my 2000 V6 manual trans stang. I don't have a mach sound system. The only problem i've noticed so far, is how to get through the firewall without drilling. Does anyone know of a specific location i can run my amp power cable in the firewall? I also thought about purchasing another battery and placing it in the trunk, just for the amp. What do u all think about that? Any suggestions?

find the main harness going through the firewall on the drives side, and push the power wire through that. You do not want to drill through the firewall, that will compromise its purpose.

Well there are many ways to get power to your amp. The firewall is cool but be very careful going threw there one slip of the knife.......lets not even think of that. Another way is going under the car and coming threw the trunk. just use a good heavy gauge wire and maybe a plastic wire cover. I just bought my 96 GT and I run a small custom audio shop out of my house. But I have never done a mustang LOL. But watch it around that rubber grommet around your wiring harness!! I would follow the fender down under the car and snake it threw the frame just watch for pinch points. When I do mine I will have a better answer. Good luck.

whooa, not a good idea going under the car. If part of the wire was to come loose and snag on something....theres goes the wiring. Safest route is through the firewall through the main gromet. There is alot of room in the main harness for a 2ga. wire to slip through.

yeah, thats a really retarded suggestion going under the car. But anyhow, there are plenty of places you could squeeze the wire through. if worst comes to worst, run it behind your fender, and inside the car through your doors main harness. thats the ONLY ither way i would run if it wasnt through the firewall

I have 2 stereo wires running thru the firewall's main harness gromett not to mention the wires for my nitrous and all the other crap I have hooked up. I just got a philips screw driver and pushed it thru from the inside and then when it came out on the engine side of the firewall I got the amp wires and i wrapped them to the screwdrive with electrical tape and I had a buddy pull on the screw driver and i pushed on the wires and it went right thru.

If you really dont want to play with the firewall grommett, you could always run the wire down the firewall and up thru the rubber that surrounds the shifter but it does get awful hot down there.

Let us know what u decide to do.

I just did mine today and there is a sheet that looks like aluminum foil on the firewall on the driver's side. You can easily punch a hole in it to run cable though. It comes out underneath the steering column. There is a perforated patch that you can drill through, punch a hole in, or just remove to snake your wire from the battery to your amp. Have fun!!!
