Default Rear Speaker install

I have a factory 2002 Mustang Coupe. Trying to install new rear speakers. I can get the plastic cover off, but cant seem to get the liner from above speakers out. Any suggestions?

liner? You should just have to remove the rear deck, that hard plastic thing with carpet on it. and then remove the speakers.

Is it the Mach460 system? Any amps located in the trunk on the plastic surround?

ok. got the liner off. but the factory speaker have the lil plastic clip for the wiring. and they wires are yellow and black. im assuming black is negative and yellow is positive. am i assuming right? do i just cut off the plastic clip and rewire the wires using the wires that came with the new speakers? as you can tell...i'm a noob when it comes to this kinda stuff and i dont wanna pay BB ~50 bucks to install them for me, that why im trying to do the rears myself. then maybe get new front ones when an audio store has free install.

I'm not sure what the proper color codes are you your Mustang, but there are wiring diagram available for your year. If it was me, I would purchase new/heavier guaged wires for the speakers, and just use the harness you purchased for power. The stock wires will not retain full signal if you plan on putting more power into your system via amp and subs. I know, you may say you are not going to do it now, but just like all of us here, we need more power!!!!!

no. im not gonna put an amp/sub into my car. all im gonna do is put a new head unit, new speakers in front/rear, and MAYBE a cd changer. nothing more than that. there isnt any room in trunk for sub, plus im kinda outta the whole sub phase anyways. im thinking about putting this head unit and speakers in. tell me what u think of them....and please offer suggestions on other brands/models i should look into.

I think that the head unit is just fine. I've always liked Pioneer units. However, the speakers are not of the best quality. I have always had luck with Infinity speakers, and they make 5x7/6x8's that fit in your current holes. Also, if you could pick up a Mach surround for your trunk it definitely helps with the low tones. I was just responding to a guy in this forum who said he had an extra surround. I believe he was from Maryland. He responded to someone who had 460 amp problems. Check it out. Mustang guys are always willing to help Mustang guys. My Son purchased one from Ebay for about 20.00+shipping. He ended up with Infinity components, but the Infinity speakers are better than the Pioneers. I could never get the sound right out of the Pioneer speakers. But that is just my opinion. Boston Acoustics are also great quality. Always try to go for somewhere around 300 watts for peak power on speakers. You can check ebay for the speakers. They have a ton of companies who sell stereo products dirt cheap. You may be able to save some good money on that head unit too......Good luck!!!!

Here is a surround.

Then a component system will be the best for sound. This setup has the covers too......
