Default Need Help Hard-Wiring!

Hey guys.

I recently got a Cobra XRS 9530 Radar Detector for a Birthday Present. This was actually one of the things I was really happy to get. It's odd, for some reason... I go fast in my Mustang, I don't know why...

Well, long story short: the Power source for the Radar Detector is the harness that hooks up into ashtray area/cigarette lighter. Well, my car doesn't actually have that properly hooked up. I've heard that the cigarrette lighter is infamous for blowing fuses, and thus was never hooked up in my car.

Now, here's my questions:

How can I hard-wire this thing so it's recieving power and works properly? I was debating hooking it up to the radio's power supply and just piggy-back it that way. However, I don't know how it all works.

So, how would I do it? Do I take apart the current way it connect in, find the positive and negative, and hooks up the wires that way? Is there a specific type of wire I use?

Help needed!

cut off the 12volt plug for the lighter and get a volt meter and see which one is the posative. Get a length of wire and piggy back it to the fuse box on the radio fuse. Quick and easy
