Default Rear 6x9 Speakers

I had a set of kenwood 6x9's laying around, wasting space in the store room, and decided to mount them under the rear deck. I was concerned it might turn out ghetto, but they are rock solid. I just removed the old paper ford 6x8's from the top. I used bungee cords to hold'em up there, while I drilled the holes, and drove in the screws. I spread a sheet out to catch the metal shavings. Really upgraded the shaker 500.

Anyway, if you got 6x9's dont hesitate to mount'em, it was easy.

6 X 9 speakers have always "kicked ass" compared to the 5 X 7's...

Good Job!!!

Maybe I'll do the something sometime...

you may have to trim the rear deck a little to accomodate the 6x9's but it can be done

I am about to replace my rear speakers. Is there anything difficult about removing the panel to get to those speakers ? will it just pop out from the rear seat area?

The 05 - 06 grill just pops off and I used a torx bit on a socket to get mine out.

The 07 up Mustangs require a PITA disassembly of the whole rear deck to get to the 5x7/6x8 speakers. I take it that Ford decided that a single solid panel was better than having pop out grills when it comes to extra noise from rattle/vibration/etc.

Thumbs up

Macop, if you have a 1994-1998 its going to be a project to remove the interior deck panel, the panel just doesent pop out you have to take out at least one set of the side panels. i'de suggest buying some 3/8" or 1/2" nylon spacers and some self tapping screws, center them over the square holes in your deck (between the factory ones) and mount them from the bottom (trunk) just leave the factory speakers, you might need to put a little amp in too if you want all 4 in there and working. oh an don't cut the factory connectors off the wire totally leave an inch or 2 just in case. an i recomened 5"x7"s if you mounting them this way.
