Default 12 volt cig lighter issue

My cigarette lighter 12V plug keeps blowing the fuse on my griffin iPod charger. I'm on my 5th fuse and cannot for the life of me figure out why it has started this. My cellphone charge is fine and never blows. Any ideas?

Does it the fuse blow when you start the car or at some random time? Remember, the cigarette lighter is not a regulated 12VDC supply. It's 14.4 volts.

It seems fairly random but within the first five minutes of use. If the fuse is rated for 250 volts, but 2 amps i'm assuming it's some sort of amperage spike. why is it only the ipod charger. All other devices work fine. thanks.

Is that the fuse that came in the device or one that you put in after it popped the first time? 250V is WAY too high of a voltage rating for a 14.4VDC system.

250V 2A is the standard fuse found in most car chargers

my cigarette lighter and power point did the same thing to alot of the stuff i plug in. I tore down the center console and it turns out that the wiring harness plug was broken and was shorting out....im guess causing spikes in the voltage an it was blowing everything! it might be worth a check and see if all the vehicle wiring is intact.
