Default Looking for a good sound system.

I'm looking for a good (but not too expensive ) sound system for my 85 GT. I'm going to need regular speakers to mount throughout the car, a reciever, a subwoofer, and an amp(?).

What can you guys recommend?

There are a million good systems out there. It's a matter of opinion. I'm an Infinity fan for speakers. They have great component systems, amps and subs. I'm a Pioneer fan for headunits-always have been for 20 or so years. Again, just my opinion.

I would definity go with Infinity or a JL setup in your car. I got all my stuff off ebay for pretty cheap, and i highly recommend checking out the infinity kappa perfect series subwoofer. A little bigger sub box would sound good in your car.

I'd reccomend browsing around on some car audio forums really, thats what I've been doing lately. Im updating the super crappy system in my 84, replaced the HU with a 200 watt nob style one so I didnt have to cut the dash. Got it from a company called custom autosounds, they sell on ebay and elsewhere. Great product if you dont want all the bling bling looking HU and cutting up our dash. On the case of speakers, Id have to back up what the previous poster said about infinity. I bought some 6x9 kappas to put in the rear hatch, 2ohm speakers, should kick ass. On the case of subs, check out a company called Elemental Designs, they make freaking awesome subs for really really good prices.

But I say again, check out a car audio forum, read that, youll find out that 90% of the names you know for subs and speakers are crap.

Edit: My setup will soon beeee....

2 Infinity Kappa 6x9
2 3.5 inch speakers for the dash of unknown company (havent decided yet)
1 75 watt x4 Audiobahn amp
and eventually, one, and maybe two if i choose to, Elemental Designs SQ10 to go under my driver and maybe passenger seats in .3 cubic foot sealed boxes.

its always a good idea to shop around! i am currently using a pioneer head unit i have a infinity reference component system in the back with references in the front as well. I hand those amped up to a 4 channel sony explode amp (not my first choice but it came with the car and it works!) In the trunk i have a 12 kappa perfect dvc sub along with an alpine amp. I tell ya the systems is crystal clear, and really really loud!

on the sub part, IT depends on the type of music you lsiten to most of the time. But for regular speakers, 6 x 9 Pioneer 4 ways are the best for your buck and the best out there, they deliver enormous amounts of sound.

Subs: if youre into rock n Roll, Audiobahn is the way to go, they are specially designed for that music im tellin you, i had 2 12's in my truck and when u jam to some rock or metal, it jams better than JL's do If you lsiten to everything I recommend kiker solobarracks or w/e its typed. theyre cheap and sounds good overal on all types. If youre all hip hop and want that boom boom, JL AUDIO all the way. DONT GET XPLOD'S WASTE of $$$

AMPS: Rockford fallsgate, Legacy, and Phenoix Gold I recommend.

I really like the way my old infinity amp pushed the subs. My father currently has that amp and i wanna steal it back.
Ya sony xplodes are a no-no! I have the four channel amp and havent had any problems with it.
