Question 2000 GT Headunit question

I have the Mach 460 audio system and I was woundering about buying an aftermarket cd/mp3 receiver. Since there are 2 units for my audio system is it ok to buy an aftermarket CD/MP3 receiver? What would I do with my stock cd receiver?

why wouldnt you be able to replace your factory head unit with an aftermarket CD/MP3? you can try selling the stock one on here, ebay, or even a junkyard..

I can replace it but what im saying is a new headunit come all together. Radio/CD in the same unit. My MACH 560 has 2 seperate units, one for the radio/casetts and another for the cd. What would I do with my exitsting cd player? Just take it out and fabricate something to put in there?
As in this pic you can see the 2 units which I mean....

well you could pull both of them, put in your CD player and put in guages in the other slot.. or have it like on the 95's to where below the cd player, you have a shelf to hold things.

You cant' and can ..all depends n what your looking to do. To hook an aftermarket pre amp output system to the mach system without future problems is impossible. The correct way to do it is wire past your three amps. IF you dont you will burn your $600.00(Remeber thats for 1) Mach amps up. I know a lot about audio and this is a re occuring problem with most mustangs. Im right now working at Car & Audio Shop and I do at least 3 Mustangs a week. We get by it by installing a 200 watt aftermarket amp which we direct wire in thru the head unit. Then after that you can either bridge off that and run subs , after market speakers pretty much whatever you want. But if you didnt wire around the amps the most likly your burning them up. Sometimes it takes 2 months and sometimes 5years. All depends.

The Mach 460 is very easy to make work with an aftermarket stereo and here is what you do and buy. Go to your local Best Buy and pick up these parts: PSI2 Factory amp intergrator, Ford amp integrator harness, and a multi purpose pocket- $39.99, $15.99, $15.99

The Pocket takes the place of the fact. cd player. The PSI2 is a unit that wires into your speaker wires and makes it compatible with all aftermarket radios, and you will never have problems with it! And the harness plugs into your factory wiring so there is no guessing and or hacking your wires.

I am a manager at Best Buy and have been professionally installing stereo's for 7 years! Email me your questoins.
