Default radio installation 1965 mustang coupe

I need help in a radio installation in my 1965 mustang coupe with AC. I am installing the original AM radio. I need to know the wiring codes for an original 1966 AM radio. The car's original wiring is not in the car. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

There should be a yellow with black stripe wire which is the switched 12 v power for the radio.
There will be a blue with red stripe wire with this for the dial light.

The last two wires will be black with a green stripe for the speaker.

The radio makes ground through the metal dash and the metal hanger on the rear.

Hello. The radio should have a two-wire connector coming out of it. That plugs into the dash speaker. It will also have either one or two more wires coming out of it, depending on the radio that you have. If it has one wire, that is the power supply for the entire radio, if two wires then one is power for the radio and the other is power for the light that illuminates the face of the radio. They (or it) go to a keyed power source.Originally the car had an accessory feed wire that was either black or black with a red stripe, depending on when exactly your car was built, that had a three-wire female connector on the end of it. If that is not there on your car, then you can hook the power feed for the radio to the stud on the back of the ignition switch. You should also install an in-line 10 amp fuse just for safety's sake if you hook it to the ignition switch. Hope that helps.

Default 1966 PHILCO radio installation

Thanks for your reply, my radio has one single black wire which we believe is the ground wire it says EIA-1241 and one single blue with red stripe which we believe is the hot wire which says EIA-1241 same #. The two wire plug in is black with green and black which we believe are the spearker wires.

We just need to confirm if the blue with red stripe is the hot wire.

Thanks,

Rick

Hi again. The radio grounds itself through the case. Both of those single wires should be keyed power. Run a ground wire from the case of the radio to the a suitable grounding point on the dash, run a wire from the stud on the back of the ignition switch for test purposes and hook up the two wires ONE AT A TIME and see which one is which. One should power the radio and the other should be the face plate illumination. Some folks like to run the face plate illumination through the headlight switch so that it only comes on with dash lights. Hope that helps.
