speaker problems with Mach system

My Mach CD player stereo broke, so I replaced it with a new Alpine stereo....now rear sound has no bass...sound is terrible....this is on my 98 Mustang GT convertible

do speakers need replaced???

dont think so. if it worked before you swapped the headunit, it should need to be replaced now. most likely something wasnt wired right.

its difficult to tell because old Cd player didnt work..only cassette..whic kind of sounds crappy anyway...

I read another post where the AMP has to be bypassed??? or system rewired.....

yup, thats what i heard and what ive been told. the factory system doesnt respond to well with any aftermarket system, you either have to end up replacing the amps or re-wiring them

I believe it has something to do with how many ohms the Mach system runs at, not sure on the specifics though. From what I heard, Crutchfield has alot of good info on this topic, check out their website. In fact, there was a thread just a few days ago in the S197 section, but it was for the Shaker1000 system, I'm not sure how similar the 2 are. I have an aftermarket head unit in my car, it was there when I bought it. There is a set of speaker wires ran from the head unit to the back and they run directly to the speakers. I haven't checked to see if the are the original speakers yet, but the sound good. I pulled the 2 rear amps out this past weekend, so if anyone is looking for a set, let me know.

took car back to stereo shop....they listened and noticed problem....rewired it..sounds better but rear bottom speakers arent hooked up...only top rear and front...guy said because there are 4 amps...

does this make sense???

i have the mach 1000 in my car, and my 6 disc changer jammed, and i got pissed off and punched it and cracked the face, so i had to replace the head unit. not only did the player jam, but it would skip and not even play NEW cds. i ended up going with a pioneer. it has about 10 million audio adjustments to fine tune the sound. it took me about 2 weeks to get it to sound ALMOST as good as it did with the factory unit. the dealer told me to replace the unit it would cost about 600 bucks and if i got a used one i would have to find one out of a 02gt coupe specificly. Just typing this message reminds me how pissed off i still am about the whole situation. DEALER MARKUP IS HOGSHIT!

yo boss what u want for them amps i think i need some for my new alpines, they keep cutting out like they are shorting out. and i think its bc the POS 460 cant put our the rms they need

and whats so specific from your year that you cant just get any 01-02 unit? 03/04 units have different plugs in the back, but i thought all 01-02 units were the same...

Heck, I don't even know if they work to be honest. The wires were cut but there is plenty there to hook up some butt-connectors. Do you still have the factory head unit? The amps may not be your problem, it may just be a compatibility issue. If you do need the amps though, let me know. $20 just to get em' shipped out to you should cover it.

This actually reminds me of watching my brother install some head units back in the day. I once witnessed him yank one out of my cousin's truck, slam it on the ground, then put an axe through it lol. My cousin was freaking out because the Beastie Boys CASSETTE was still in it. On another occasion he ripped one out of his truck and chucked it a good 30 yards into the creek in front of my grandma's house......f'n hilarious!!!
