That's what I thought. That 50W is referencing the peak power that the speaker can handle. Thats for when a hard bass note hits or something like that. You want to focus on the RMS value (the continuous wattage rating). This will tell you what your speakers can handle. You can still go with that setup, but you are seriously going to underdrive your speakers and they will sound like crap. Check the specs on the amp and the speakers so you can match the impedances. For example, if it says 50W @ 4 ohms on the amp (very common), you want to make sure you get speakers that are rated at 50W @ 4 ohms. This way you don't underdrive or overdrive your speakers. Same for the sub that you want to add. There are other factors, but this is the main one. You really want to check out a 4-channel amp to maximize your speaker output. I know it will be a little bit more $$$, but it will be worth it. Imagine if your CD's sounded like the radio? Not good. Check ebay, you can get some really good deals there. Based on what you want, this should be your shopping list:
Mono Amp
4-Channel Amp
4 speakers of your choosing
10" or 12" sub
Dual amp kit
Speaker wire
Capacitor (this is more of a just in case, you shouldn't need one)
2 Distribution Blocks (one for ground and one for power; you can get away with one block for power depending on where and how you ground the amps to the car)
I know it sounds like a lot and you are looking at about $700-$1000+ depending on brands and performance. You usually get what you pay for. A lot of people like Boston Acoustic, JL Audio, Infinity, Fosgate but they are pricey. I personally have all Pioneer except for my sub which is MTX and I couldn't be happier. I paid about $700 minus the HU ($250), which I already had. It's about $600 at BB for them to do one amp and a couple of subs and it takes them like 2 hours. That is a 30-45-min install tops, especially with 2 or 3 guys. You could do the entire install in a few hours and save that money for something else. Like I said, I'm no expert, but I've screwed up enough to know what not to do. Let us know how it goes.
