Question I'm having stereo difficulties.. read on please

I just bought a 1998 GT Mustang. The radio and casette player works fine - but when i put a CD in, it takes it in, shows up on track number 1 - without a duration reading - and won't play. After a 20 seconds or so, it will switch back to the radio. I've already tried messing around with it and it still won't work. I've also tried burned CDs of different types and regular CDs, nothing works. Is there a way to make the CD player work or do you think it's not correctly hooked up to the speakers. Someone help me please, I feel like an idiot.

If it is a stock one they really don't last a long time and suggest just putting in another unit. ford charges 200$ flat to send them off to fix.

I love my sony with the USB port on the front and got it for 160$ shipping and all, a rewire kit is like 20$.

it is a stock, and i want to get rid of the casette player (i dont use/have/want to have/ casettes in my life). the stereo is broken into two compartments. the top is the casette/radio and the bottom in the cd player. how much do you think it would cost to just get a Cd player where the casette player currently is? what wouldi do with the empty space it leaves in that bottom compartment?

Like 15-20$ from the local stereo shop just ask for a "DEN DELETE KIT" with the pocket, they will know what u are asking for and it has a awesome hole to throw your remote and wallet in just specify your year mustang and what u want to do "best buy" has a nice deep one for the mustang.

I bought a used car last month and the CD did not work. I bought a $10 CD cleaner disk. I cleaned it about 20 times and the unit works just fine. Give this a try.

I think I have a factory CD player from my car laying around somewhere, it was in the car for about 2 years before I went aftermarket
