Default Battery lite staying on & radio not working.

Ok, so I started installing my new HID headlight kit last nite. What a pain in the a**! I bought a good quality light set, not off ebay. The only problem is the more expensive & better quality, the more of a hassle it is to install. More wires, etc... So I pulled the battery out (maybe not necessary), & I installed everything per the directions. Everything except... & this is where I feel really freakin bumb. The battery. I put the battery in backwards & the thing sparked at me & the horn went off. Scared the **** outta me because I wasnt ready for it. Once I figured it out which took a while, everything worked just fine.

So today I get in my car to go to work & it starts up fine, but I noticed the battery lite was on & not going away like it usually does. Why? The other thing was that my radio wouldnt turn on. Again, why? Everything else electric on the car works fine. Hmm.... Is it as easy as a fuse or something more complicated? Anyone got suggestions?

Carguy1985 you put this kit on yours, did you have problems too?

I would check all the fuses. Maybe putting the battery in backwards you fried some of the grounds. I dont really know if you would just a thought in my head. I have saw people fry the computer when they cross the connections.

i did the same thing, if its an aftermarket radio, check the fuse in the back of the radio.. it fried my alternator when i did that tho. had to get a new one, my batt light stayed on, and when I replaced the alt--- all was normal again.

yeah, ur lucky you didnt fry the ECU. a family friend of ours did that on their silverado, except they didnt realize it and tired turning on the car.

as for yours, check the fuses for the radio and take the car to Autozone to have them check the alternator incase something fried inside it. if you have the stock radio, try to see if you can get another mustang to test it on to make sure its not fried as well.

BTW, what HID kit was it? im thinking about replacing my ebay kit soon with a good quality one

Default OK. Update time.

This is the worst day for me & this car! I was soooo pissed earlier! i got all the way to work just fine. Drive around town a little and then was driving home when the thing started to act funny. My gauges were going crazy & the car started driving like crap. I was getting no power & it started chugging & stumbling. Hesitation was bad too. Then it died in the middle of the street! I was a typical Ford owner, "dead in the road". Luckily I broke down 100 yds from a Firestone car shop. I pushed it into there & the guys working there helped me out. A new battery & $106 later I was still having trouble keeping a charge. They tested it only to tell me what I didnt want to hear on a Friday afternoon & a full weekend coming up. "Your alternator is toast" Needless to say I wanted to punch my windows out. I knew the car broke because of my stupidity!

Luckily my Mustang shop buddy came thru. For those that dont know alternators arent cheap & they suck to replace. Luckily my buddy is going to get the part tomorrow & put it in for me for $200 even. Im stll pissed though, its money I hadnt planned on spending for this. Looks like my HID kit is going to cost me way more than I had originally estimated. Hmm... You live & you learn.

oh wow, that really does suck. but how hard is it to replace the alternator on the 4v? on mine, you take off the belt, loosen 2 bolts, unplug it, install, and bam! youre done.

ill bet you anything (not literally)your original battery wasnt ready to be replaced, either. the alternator wasnt charging it, so you were driving it around on battery juice only. when it ran out, ur car died. probably a good re-charge and a new alternator would have been all you needed

yup, totally have to agree with reivaxtorres, if that were to keep happening, it would burn the battery, but one time shouldn't kill it..

also, like he said, alt should be an easy swap.. I'm no mechanic genius, and can change an alt in about 20 or 30 minutes..

Well a buddy f mine is going to save my a** again. He ordered me a new alternator & is going to swing by my house & put it in, since I have no time. Door to door service, you gotta love it. He saved me a bunch too!
I dont know about the battery though. Arent you supposed to replace it every 2-3 years anyway? My car is an 04 still running on everything original. only 19k miles on it though. Thats what made me pissed off. Oh well, at least its going to be taken care of.

yeah, usually batteries are supposed to last around 3-5yrs or so, but most people replace them after 3 yrs. you shoulda gotten an optima...those things never die and are good for at least 6yrs

Yeah optimas are expensive, but from what ive read theyre worth it. I wanted to get an optima, but when youre stranded on the road you kinda gotta take whatever the shop has. The interstate battery is the ugliest thing ive ever seen. Neon green top. It should be on a ricer car not my pretty mustang! Hahahahaha. I might still look into changing for an optima (full stereo system coming in soon), but for now the problem is solved. Everything except for my radio; still wont turn on. Huh? Cant figure that one out.

i got my optima for $100....but you're right, when you need a battery ASAP, you cant be picky. since you say you are going to be getting a system in your car, i recomend you get a yellow top.

red = performance (more cold cranking amps)
yellow = audio
blue = marine

(just an fyi)
