If you plan on putting in a system into your classic mustang couple things to keep in mind.

1. Dont go oversized- by this I mean dont get 2 15 inch subwoffers and 2 huge amps just because your friends think its cool to go boom boom down the road. Make sure it all fits and looks nice in the car.

2. Sometimes the most expensive speakers dont always sound that great. A lot of it depends on the music you listen to and how loud you play it. The system I have in my 1970 is nothing near as expensive as my friends. All I have is a 12 inch kicker (really old, belonged to my father for 3 years before he gave it to me) and add in the fact that I bought some new 6x9s and thats all. It sounds good for the music I listen to.

3. Make sure you wire it all up good and clean. Be sure to tape off all wire ends and tape over any wires that you splice into. I have rewired my car and did it just as the local sound system guy told me to. Got me a lot better sound, and helped me to get the speakers to push out more sound then before.

You NEED a bigger alternator, 100amps+. The stock one might last a month.

I picked up a "Visisonik 300W" amp on ebay for $23 delivered. Puts out 70Wx1 RMS and sounds great. The same seller had a pair of 12s for $40 shipped or so. An amp install kit is $15

2 or three sheets of plywood, a 1x2", a bunch of woodscrews and a tube of caulk will get you a half-assed box for cheap. Stuff it with leftover house insulation (free) and you're in business. if you want to port it, find the Fs of the speaker and use an online calcualator to find out what it needs, then use PVC pipe for the port. BigLots has carpeting cheap.

We built a system like this for my buddies truck, already had everything but the speakers and amps and he's been offered $200 for it. Might have half that in it.
