Default audio system on my car

when i bought my stang the previous owner had a pretty good sound system installed on it, right now i have the setup and i just need to get some speakers. Im curious because in the back of the mach 400 unit( drivers side) its got these cables that come out from it and i was just wondering if anyone would know what those are for. i got the regular audio and power cables in the trunk but those in the front i have no idea what their for. ill try to post some pictures later.

these are the cables in my trunk, im still trying to figure out what the one that looks like a telephone cable is for:

Default Subwoofer setup

the fist picture is the power wires that should run from your battery to your trunk (where there used to be an amp). the second picture is the wires from your deck to your trunk/amp. It looks like the previous owner had some subwoofers setup.

In the first picture the larger red wire is the power cable which runs from the battery to the amp. The larger black wire is the ground which runs from the amp to a ground somewhere in the car. the larger blue wire is the rca cables that run from your deck to the amp. The small blue wire is the remote wire that turns on the amp and the other small black wire looks like it would run to the gain control for the amp. And the second picture is again of the rca cables that plug into the back of the deck and go to the amp.

The phone cord looking one may be your gain control. I have the same setup in my car. It runs from the amp to a dial you can place anywhere you'd like. Mine has 4 settings: 0 db, 6 db, 9 db, and 12 db.

Its actually a cool feature as you can adjust the output of your amp without having to get out...especially when you listen to a wide range of music.

for the most part yeah, you'd need a box, the subs, an amp or two and maybe a capacitor or a h.o alternator depending on the watts your running.

Do it right get a JL amp. I got a JL 500x1 amp with a 15 inch kicker sub in a custom enclosure. It sets off car alarms, and has rattled panels loose in the car. Thats all you really need anything more is almost overkill. Make sure you dynamat though or the outside of your car will rattle like a SOB.

Theres no such thing as overkill when it comes to car audio! ha. I install custom audio/visual systems in cars and I just got done with a 2002 mustang. I installed 4 JL 12w7's and 4 JL 1000/1v2's. Now thats a system! Before you start any setup you need to decide whether you want to go the SPL route or the SQ route and go from there.
