Has anyone found an installation kit for 2005 and up Mustangs that does not have the pocket? I'm not a big fan of the whole pocket thing. I'd rather have flat plastic that I could put a mustang decal onto or something.
Also, does anyone have a picture of their car with a pocket kit installed so that I can see what it would look like in my car, if I can't find one without it.
You could always purchase some installer ABS and put it in the pocket hole. It will require some trimming, but it can be done as I did it on my Ford F-150 and in my 2000 Honda Accord that both had those useless pockets on them.
Now for my 2006 Mustang, I am planning to purchase a Pioneer AVIC-D3. Later I plan to add the JL Audio Stealth Box in the trunk and replace the factory 6x8s with something a little better. I will keep the 8" factory subs in the doors because those "should" provide for some good midbass.
Yeah, I don't think any are made without the pocket. The plastic idea is a pretty good one. I use my pocket to hold my iPod, so I can't really complain about it.
I am starting to re-think the Pioneer and am considering an Alpine. If I do go with the Alpine, I will keep my IPOD in the pocket underneath the deck. If I go with the Pioneer, I will have to either put the IPOD in the console or the Glove Box.
I don't really need navigation because I already have TWO portable NAV devices, with the latest being my Cell phone with built-in GPS. Also, I am OCD about fingerprints on the touch screen plus I don't want to be tempted to play IPOD video or DVDs while driving. I will sleep on it for a few more weeks before I make my decision.
Alright, thanks for the advice guys. I was considering the ABS option but just wanted to make sure no one else had found a kit before i went that direction.
I used to keep my 30gb iPod Video in the pocket underneath my radio, until I came out from my girlfriends house one night to find the radio, iPod, and pocket completely gone as well as my passenger window smashed in.
Unless you plan on taking your iPod out of your car every time you get out of it, I strongly suggest that you run the wire down into the center console where noone can see the iPod.
And just so y'all know, insurance doesn't cover iPods.

Oh do I ever know too well what insurance DOES NOT cover. My 2007 Accord Sedan EX-L V6 6MT was totaled on October 14, 2007, and the wrecker yard would not let me take the aftermarket stereo equipment out of it because the adjuster had already come. I couldn't beat the adjuster to the yard because I was laid up from the injuries sustained in the accident and had no wheels of my own. My insurance company does not want to pay me for the equipment left in the car, even though chances are it was damaged in the accident that wasn't even my fault.
The subwoofer box broke out of its mounting bracket and slammed straight into the amp putting a nasty dent into it, yet I am still fighting a losing battle to get reimbursed for it. I just have a hard time kissing $700 goodbye for an amp and subwoofer that was practically new.
When my uncle wrecked my first car ('94 Acura Integra) shortly after I bought the 'Stang, the adjuster called me and gave me a quote and asked if the car had a CD player in it. I said "I'm not going to lie to you; i'm going to take the entire stereo system out. But I guess if you wanted... You could put down that it has a CD player anyway." He replied "Ok, that sounds fine to me." So the next day my brother and I went to my uncles where the car had been towed, and we took out the head unit, speakers, sub, and wiring.
It's funny that all this comes up right now, when i've just begun the final stages of my stereo system in the 'Stang...
Who is your insurance company?

Farm Bureau is my insurance company, and State Farm covers the idiot that caused me to lose my special order Accord. I have an attorney involved now, so I plan to get the money back somewhere in the midst of all this. I tried to be a gentleman about it, only to get walked all over. After I told my insurance that I hired an attorney, they started to change their tune and said that they "could" find a way to give me my money. I said "Too late, and just think, all you had to do was give me $700 more and we could have avoided all of this!"
I got some of that non-skid carpet/cabinet liner from the grocery store($5-6), to put in, so things don't slide around. I keep my stereo remote, some hardcoat gum, and my sunglasses in it.
Also put a small piece in the rounded area under the stereo, in front of the shifter, that I use to keep spare coins in, and they don't move or jingle.
