That is something else I miss about my '04 Explorer EB. In it, shuffle meant it shuffled all 6 CDs. That's how I want it to be in my Mustang!
Anyone know how to "mod" that?
Preferably without replacing the unit--I know, I'm asking for waaay too much, huh?!
Stl....your CD player in your 2005 used to shuffle all 6 CDs and now it doesn't ????
Are you sure you haven't been hitting the sauce recently ? LOL
I don't think there is any way to "mod" the CD player to do that without having some electronic guru rip it out of the dash and then doing whatever it is he does with the guts of the unit. In that case you would just be better off purchasing an aftermarket CD changer that includes that feature.
When on Shuffle, mine will shuffle some songs and then will repeat the song played just before. I usually don't let it get away with that and jump to the next. Overall shuffle doesn't work very well. I can't tell if it is totally missing some either. But it has never shuffled anything but the CD it is playing at the time.
I don't usually drive long enough to get through more than half a CD anyway, unless I'm traveling. Maybe he stopping and starting confuses it. I'll be driving for two and a half hours each way over Thanksgiving and may give it time to see what's going on.

I'm reporting back on the way my unit worked on a longer stint on the road.
I selected the shortest CD and put it on shuffle. It shuffled and shuffled until I was sure I was hearing the same song for the third time. It never switched to the next CD. End of that experiment. Just ran it in regular mode after that.
I don't know if it should switch to the next CD after hitting everything on the first, but I think it should. I think it would be great if it would shuffle the complete stack randomly, but since it has to switch CD's and "read" each time, it would probably wear out the mechanism pretty quickly. The owners manual doesn't elaborate on this.
So, is my unit working as it is supposed to, or at least like everyone else? I am having no troubles with any other function as far as I know. By the way, it is a Shaker 500.
Frank
P.S.- No troubles on the trip that about 10,000 less cars wouldn't help. Maintained around 70 mph on the slab, played around a little on a nice deserted twisty road and averaged almost 25 mpg overall- REAL mileage, not info mileage. I think it can do better.

yes, i know, im bring an old thread back, but.........
04 mustang mach 460 headunits are supposed to shuffle thru the cd's, not just the one playing. once i get my cd6 installed in my 98, ill report back with the official findings.

Gee, Frank, did it take me just a little while to get back to this thread!!??
Thank you for the report. I believe that's exactly how mine works unfortunately. Occassionally it will switch to a different CD altogether, and I wondered why until I read your post. I guess once it does shuffle every song on the CD at least once, it does switch to the next CD.
At his point though (three months later), it's kind of a moot point. As soon as my new headunit comes in, I'm replacing the whole thing anyway. I'm buying a HU that accepts a USB memory stick. I'll just play my music that way.
Thanks again for the scoop!
