Default Mach 460 or not - and using the CD player with new head unit

Hi,
My son just bought a 1998 Mustang. How do I know if this is the Mach 460 or premium system? It has a cassette in one DIN location and a CD player below it.

Also, we are installing a new Alpine X300 which is MP3 only but has an Aux input - is the CD plalyer stand alone enough that we can connect the CD player to the Alpine?

I have not removed the radio or CD, I assume there is an embilical cable between the radio and CD - anyone have a wireing schematic of what the cable leads are?

Thanks
Ted

The X300 has USB capabilities. I'd forgo the CD and just run with the X300. I'm in the same boat and just gonna go aftermarket for all peices.
As for how to tell if it's a MACH 460 - If it is, there should be speakers/tweeters mounted to the doors right where the mirror housing sits. You should also have a couple of speakers and a couple of amps mounted under the rear deck.

The following link is for the MACH 460 wiring:

Mach 460 Information

About midway down the page they have a link to a zip file containing the schematics in .pdf format.

I don't have any info on the premium kit, I'm actually still looking myself.

If all else fails, call FORD. They told me what rolled off the assembly line installed on my 94.

the stock cd player only works with the stock tape deck. you can pull it out and put in a pocket dash kit that just snaps in.
