Default Subwoofer Sizes - What's best for my 1998 Mustang coupe?

I went into electronic express the other day, and I talked to an employee who said I would be better off getting one 12', rather than 2 12's or 2 10's. What would sound a preform better, one 12' or 2 10's? Thanks in advance.

the 2 10's will put out more sound due to more surface area pushing more air. The only bad thing about that is it takes more space. If you get two 10's instead of a 12 (or 2 12's) make sure the 10's are decently high powered. Good luck.

Depends on what kind of music u listen to, the equipment, how much trunk you want to lose and how much weight you want to add. I personally use to work in the car audio field and built a variety of sub enclosures. I like a ported box, but they are usually on the larger side of the spectrum... EXCEPT for the Boston G1 or G2 if you can find them local. In a 98 Cobra I build a Ported enclosure tuned at 45hz for a Boston G2 powered by a Boston GT-22. WOW is all I can say. The boxs total vol was 1.3cuft. That's TINY... It wasn't much bigger then a truck style enclosure... It also had a sqrared port. It was Very musical and got down and dirty..
Pre-fab boxes are ****** and don't rec them UNLESS you are on a budget. Spend the coin and get a custom tuned box. Easiest way to explain it is this... Say you wear a size 10 shoe... Go run track in a size 8 or 12. Sure at 1st ur like ok, but within NO time your feet will hurt taking away your potential to do any good.... Same with speakers... A solid box is only PART of the equasion... Source and signal is a MAJOR factor too. Match your equipment up Properly... RMS to RMS. I love seeing the junk amps advertise 1000watts then you look at their RMS being 50x2 @4ohms hahahaha... 1000 watts would happen IF lightning struck it and POOF.... Toast.
That's just my $.02
Hoping to save people from frustration one at a time

Quick distraction here. i bought a legacy 2000 watt amp when i bought my Volfenhag subs, and i think i actually got all 2000 watts two times as the amp caught fire while running with the gain and boost all the way up while playing Subsonic by Bass Mekanik. I'm done.

And that was for a 10in G2. Sorry I forgot to mention that. A single G2 12in would be about 1.5cuft ported... Again very small. Apologize for the incorrect spelling... Was in a hurry

You Never saw 2k watts from a Legacy amp sorry... I can believe it caught fire from you not properly going through the proper crossover slopes and really? You had the Gain and Bass Boost all the way up? That's what most likely caused the fire or it was inproperly wiring the subs to be bridged. It happens... But for every day listening, you shouldn't ever turn the gain up to or Past 1/2. Power is NOT what kills audio... Its distortion. and I'm sure you had the Bass turned up on your radio too huh? Pure Distortion.. Gain is only to compensate for the voltage input..the bass boost help the sound at lower levels but when volume goes up... You got it... Distortion

The guy said that even though 2 10s or 2 12s would fit, that they would have less air to push, therefore a worse sound. So far the responses have confused me, hahha.

Ya 139db is a good laugh... In my 240 I had 1 10 and hit 145db on a BnB meter- and I Know you have NO clue what that is but its one of the toughest db meters made...
Anyways this isn't your thread to jack so start your own...
FYI ROOKIE mistake at a DB Drag is to play music by BassMekanik UNLESS its the designated tone ie Hz or frequency your acoustics are tuned to... Sine sweeps are audio and battery suicide. It will eat all your voltage and burn your amps.
I'm sure the guy in the CRX was also laughing at your choice in equipment...

Where was mic placed? Term Lab is the most accurate meter used. BnB is meh. Also BassMekanik actually has some good songs to bass race to, depending on your peak. Most people only think of few songs that are popular by him but he rather has some good songs that are almost like playing tone.`

You prob never even saw anything close to 1300rms out of that pyle amp, what 15" drivers did you and also what were the specs on the box? How big and tuned to what if ported.

Also op I had very good luck out of my single 10" driver in my car. You can do a really good 10" in about 1ft^3 box tuned to 33hz and you will have some good output depending on what you choose.
If you want a box designed just shoot me a email, I can design you a fairly easy box to build. Will be a aero ported box since you can change your desired tuning in case what you originally want isn't all that great.

Edit* email is tc3k101@aol.com
if you need help picking a driver just list goals, budget, and how much power you plan to use. and if you want to go ported or sealed.

box was sealed with almost 2 feet of airspace for each sub

i was hitting all the bass notes....

i run a single kicker L5 10 inch in a ported 1.5 cubic ft box and it freaking pounds hard..it has the sound of twelve inch subs in a much smaller box and doesnt need the power that 12's need.i also like the sound of the kenwood excelon slim line subs..i heard them at best buy in ported truck boxes and they surprised me.
