I have a 92 hatchback

It fit 5x7 in the rear and I chose to go to with a 5 1/2" with a 1" tweat up top. I originally tried to put 6" speakers in the door but they were too big. Same problem when i tried to have 4" up top. A 3" speaker will fir up top, however I chose to go with a mid/tweat combo and amplify them and have my 5x7's running off my deck. Sounds really good and completed my 3 way system

Depends on the type I believe. I have a 91 coupe and I'm putting in 6x8s in the rear and 6.5s in the doors and leaving the 3.5s up front alone. According to every website I visited, those were the stock sizes. Just make sure whatever you pick for the doors, the magnet clears the windows when they're rolled down. I think the speakers i selected for them had a depth of like 1.625 inches(?? not entirely sure).

I remember putting 6 1/2' in the doors, but be careful about the depth of the speakers. Too deep and they will hit window.

While you may be able to fit 6.5" in the door the stock size is 5.5" for the door, 3.5" up top and 5x7 in the rear

Stangboy got it! Though in the case of the original poster, I'm assuming he has an '86 so, he will have the 3.5" in the dash and the 5 x 7" in the hatch.

93 Mustang LX 5.0....have 5x7's in rear, 6 1/2's in door and 3 1/2's up top. Had no problems with fitment except on the pass rear 5x7 speaker, the magnet seamed to hit the metal support and the plastic grill isn't exactly flush now with the panel.

I just looked at my buddies stock speakers in his 91 GT about a year ago. They are all stock and those were the sizes for the six speakers. Alos, you can definitely get some 6.5" in the door, as you can see, many people do it all the time.

I just replaced every speaker in the stock locations in my 91 hatchback. If you want a undisputed answer go to crutchfield.com and use there "What fits my car" application.

I used 3.5" in the dash (79-93 same size), 5.25" in the doors (I know that the 87-93 use this as stock), and 6"x8" in the rear (79-93 same size).

Now these are the stock sizes, but you have to be sure that the speaker you have will work with the stock mounts. Take for instant, my door speakers needed to have the mounting holes redrilled. 6.5" speakers will fit in the doors with a 1/2" spacer for most brands/depths.

If you are going to be placing speakers in the doors, I would sujest you look into components and put the tweeters in the dash.

ok this is an old topic im posting in and all but I saw on crutchfield.com that the rear speakers are supposed to be 6x8 speakers, so my options to buy are 6x9 and 5x7 which would be my best choice for fitting? my car is a 1990 Mustang Coupe. Also the indash speakers are supposed to be 3.5" but can 4" be put in there by chance or would i have to try to find a 3.5 or smaller?

You shouldn't have a problem finding the right ones, meaning 3 1/2 and 6 x 8.

Default '90 GT sizes

When I did my old '90 GT I used Infinity 5x7 in rear, 6.5 in the doors, and 3.5 tweeters in the dash. Used Alpine head unit and sounded great, but not much bass...never got around to putting subs in before I sold the car.
