Default Heater Core quit on me !!!

My heater core gave up the ghost today Left me with some water on the carpet/floor of the car.... I managed to divert the heater hoses back into themselves but I am still having trouble getting the air out of the lines. Car is rinning hot and the thermo fan keep cutting on and off..... I'll have to pull the car apart and dry the carpet too. Hope I can get it all done by Sunday for the Sandown Car show !

All this happened on my day off work which was suppose to be a rest for me... Instead it turned out to be a stress

dont you hate that.

Heater hoses can be a bit of a bugger to bleed I have found patience to be the key .Keep the car running for 15-20 min after thermostat opens with the radiator cap off and keep topping up the coolant level.Usually does the trick.

I just broke the retainer for the horn button another job before Sunday.

Thanks for the tip Frank. Leaving the motor running worked to get the air out of the lines. Now the car is in the garage with the carpet pulled out drying !

Why don't you drive around with the heater on, that will dry out the carpet.

Thanks Noel... I don't think I will have a heater for quite some time. It looks like a huge job to replace the core in my car Oh well. Summer is comming. Who needs a heater anyway !

I blew my heater core in my 67 390 three weeks ago. Just out of Bacchus Marsh on the way to Adelaide. Whole cooling system let go on drivers floor. 3 degrees outside, no heater and just as cool conversation coming from the misses. I bought her a blanket in Adelaide for the return trip.
Lucky for both of us the weather is improving.

Dam Noel, your story makes mine sound lame ! I didn't have anyone in the pasenger side and it only dropped a couple of litres on the floor. Should be dry soon.

I supose I better check the drivers side just to make sure its dry over there....

I've Had repeated heater core failure....All within 2 years, 5 times replaced now and need it done again. I think they have cut the hoses to short, or put it in to tight. Is that poss? and what I think is if the holes were larger would this allow the heater core to move around causing it to break.... Its the same every time, A little fracture on input pipe on the heater core itself.... Please help cause my carpet cant take on any more coolant!

5 times ! Fractured input pipe.... I'd question who you are getting these heater cores from. My heater core was switched from the right hand side to the left during the conversion for Aussie driving. It has quite a large opening for the heater core in the firewall. Maybe somthing is putting pressure on your core and causing the inlet pipe to crack ??? Can you try another heater core brand ???

Im thinking its the holes in the firewall itself, That along with the hoses they say they cut to size. Core came from autozone for the first 3. Last 2 were ford.... Dont know if I want to replace it again, Gets dissapointing shelling out so much money. If I had that kind of money Id put some mo mods on! Oh well, Regardless it needs to get fixed.
