I'm sure you could get your mechanic to write it up as repairs

Hi guys,

Thanks for the website link, a few nice prospects there. There seems to be plenty of cars in my pricerange, so I'm having fun searching and learning.

I do have a few questions though. I understand the need for a rust free body, having been a panel beater for a time, I'm all too aware of the hassle. I'll be able to find a properly restored one, but I'm wondering exactly what options are nice to have.

I think A/C would be mandatory up here in QLD, and the fact that I drive around in business clothes for work. Is there a nice aftermarket kit, or is genuine the way to go? Also wondered about the need for the power steering, I like a car to steer well, and being heavy isn't a problem. I hate super light mushy power steer, so so advice from you guys that drive these cars would be greatly appreciated.

I must say that despite upsetting the purists, repowering a classic stang is becomming more and more appealing to me. I'd love to talk to anyone you know who has done this, or has a car with a late model V8 in it, so I can check out the extent of modification necessary, and more importantly, what will fit!

as per usual, thanks for your help guys!

Greg. :thumbup

In a 64-66 a 351 w is a tight fit in a 67 onward any small block clevland or windsor big blocks are a bit of a squese but can be shoehorned in.A late model 5.0 will bolt straight in as the block is basicly the same.

And of course I like the earlier, smaller cars. As for a tight fit, have you looked under the bonnet of the BA GT yet? Now that's tight, and I am told that tape is put on each shock tower to help slide it in!

Anyone know what block the late model ( 90's plus ) 4.6 V8 is? I think that'd be a nice match, heard great things about that donk.

Greg.

I have driven a 67 Fastback with no power steering...... I'd say get it if it is to be a daily driver ! Get the A/C too. Its great for re-sale and works quite well even in a vert.

390 in a 1967 is a tight fit. You have to drop the engine to change the spark plugs..... ! Better make those Platnium so you at least get 100,000 Kms !

90's does not have to be a 4.6..... Mustangs run the 5.0 HO motor untill 1995. From 1996 the 4.6 was brought in. From then on the 4.6 has evolved into the Quad Cammer available today. A late model 5.0 like mine would not be too hard. A 4.6 would be a little more involved and parts are harder to come by here too. Plus the 4.6 mod's in the US are more expensive. My 5.0 HO is hard enough to find parts for here !

I have seen two 60's models with late model engines in them. One had a Fox body 5.0 motor (1993 ?) in it and the other had an XR8 5.0 engine out of an EL XR8.

I have a 67 Coupe with a 93' 5.0 EFI HO motor and AOD Tranny. The later motor is a direct bolt in and can utilise the c4 and AOD with slight mod (drilling 2 new holes) to the crossmember. If you're going down the EFI path, use a 5.0 donk up to 93, as the 94 onwards use EEC5 computer. There are tons of writeups from the Yanks doing this converion so info isn't scarce.

At 100kmls with the AOD and a 2.77 diff, I'd be cruising at about 1700rpm. I also have an EB Fairmont with the same motor and I get 28mpg as I do a lot of highway work. I've also used an EF Radiator with Thermo's for the motor.

There are two ratios for the normal steering box. 16:1 and a 20:1. Unless your doing a lot of parking, you won't need power steering. That and if you've got 245's on the front.

Although the 67 is 75% complete, mpg will be higher due to the fact that:
1: It's roughly 600 pounds less than the car the motor came in,
2: I don't utilise the power steering or Air con
3: I have thermo's and no clutch fan for accessory load
4: I drive like grandma anyway.
