Ford Australia recalls cars over possible steering problem Ford recalls cars over possible steering problem
Ford Australia has announced the recall of more than 200,000 vehicles to check the quality of a mounting stud which the company believes may cause a loss of steering control.
The stud was used on vehicles built between June 1998 and May 2001 on models including the Futura, Fairmont and Fairlane.
Ford says that although no accidents or injuries have been reported, it believes that over-tightening of the stud during service could lead to it detaching.
Only two cases of loose studs and one of a missing stud have been reported so far.
The company will be contacting customers by mail and advertising the recall in major newspapers.
Ford spokesperson Sinead McAlary says no accidents have been reported so far.
"Even though the number of vehicles that have reported that problem is relatively small we are initiating the recall so that we can check all customers vehicles," she said.
"The actual check itself when customers go into the Ford dealership will only take approximately thirty minutes, in the meantime we suggest that they drive the vehicle with caution."
