Default Cost of Importing

Hey fellas.
I was taking a look at the mustangs that were for sale over in the US and I started wondering whether or not it would be cheaper to purchase one there, convert it and import it. I was wondering if anybody would be able to tell me an approximation of what the cost would be to import a vehicle from the US, convert it, get all the paperwork done and have it on the road. At this point I was looking at importing a model from '89 onwards. Any help would be great, thanks

Import costs for a container are around the $2,000 mark depending on who you share with and its departure / destination. It can cost a lot more if you get a container just for your car alone. Check out Parts Peddler Magazine. There are often adverts for people organising your imports. You also need insurance too.

Conversions are priced based on the year. A 1989 will be cheaper than a 1995 model because the later model has air bags, ABS and a tilt steering etc. 1996 onwards are even more expensive coz they have more electronics.

If you are looking for a Fox body or SN95 I would be very suprised if you could bring one in cheaper than buying one here without having some close friends doing mates rates for you.
