Default Engine Assembly Issue From fire

Hey guys, a while ago i posted a thread on how my 69 Grande was in my house when it was burned down in a house fire. At first i was told that nothing would be salvagable on either car, but i decided to rip the block apart for the hell of it. Come to find out the block is totaly reusable but a little unsure about the rest of the parts. I had aluminum heads and intake on the egnine, What do yall think the condition and integrity of these parts are. nothing looks melted or deformed on them just a little black from the smoke. To give you an idea of how much heat there was, the carburator was pretty much melted off except for the main body, and pis of the car are under a previous thread under classic talk "RIP Red Stallion". Thanks again guys.

Wow bummer yea the block should be fine but the aluminum heads and intake i would be suspisious of i used to heat treat parts for a company and the exposure to the heat may efect the hardness of the parts but you could take them to a machine shop and have them checked out for straightness or any kinda warpage who knows they could be fine have them magnufuxed to check for cracks the whole nine yards.

Magnaflux only works on ferous metals (steel), you'll have to do a dye pretrant inspection for cracks and a hardness test can be preformed to check if the heat treat has been effected.

well i took the heads and intake to the machine shop that bored over my engine and repairs on the block, he said there wasn't much he could do to check for hardness or anything like that, not exactly a highly technological machine shop. But he said what he could do is basically a valve job on the heads to check it out.

I'd write it off, for what it will cost to have it checked you can pick up another that hasn't been in a fire, plus the next car will more than likely have a motor in it, rebuilding and selling it is an option but once they find out it's been through a fire nobody will want to take a chance on it.

Hello. I would agree with Preacher17. The stuff is too cheap to replace to take a chance on it. The intake doesn't really matter because it doesn't have any moving parts or stresses, but there's no way I would use those heads or that block.
