How to choose carpet for a 1965 Mustang, what are the diferances?
Hello,
I am trying to start restoring my 1965 Coupe and deperatly need carpet. But how do I choose? Go with the OE 80/20, the new 80/20, or a 100 compound? What about the backing? What ounce and style? I am not looking for the most expensive custom made nor the cheapest quick fix. I just need to know if anyone has some experience that would help me out.
Thanks!

I used carpet from ACC. Seems very close to original. Been in the car for 15+ years. I'm satisfied however the car is seldom in the sun for a long time. For what it's worth.

I got a OE 80/20 from ACC as well and its a nice carpet. It comes with a built in pad like the original but probably a little better material. I also covered my entire floor pan with B-quite (like Dynomat but a lot cheaper, google it). As an alternative, you can still get the original-like underlayment from many Mustang supply places.
Thanks! I just googled b-quite and found some other forums about it and they all seem to like the stuff also~great tip! I also went to cj pony parts and have added it to my Mustang Parts folder.
One more question about carpets: does it really look that much better to get a full 1 piece vs original 2 piece?

Veronica,
you wouldn't happen to have the center console would you? i am wondering how the 2 peice carpet works with the console (like do you trim the carpet or mount on top?). i do have to agree, though, my dad's '67 has a 2 peice and that is what i am used to seeing on a classic.

Hi again. The console sits on top of the carpet. My car doesn't have a console in it, but I've put consoles in a bunch of them. They don't fit right to begin with, so Ford wasn't real concerned about how it sat, and they sure weren't going to piddle around trimming carpet just to have it sit a little bit better. Ford didn't even design a console specifically for the 65 Mustang, they used Falcon stuff and the floor of a Falcon is different up under where the compartment on a long console is, so you'll have a big gap between the bottom of the front of the console and the floor. O still think that theu look kind of cool, though. I have a couple of them in the attic. I need to go ahead and pull one down and paint it blue and put it in my car.
