Default How to add rake to a 1968 Mustang Coupe

I wanted some advice on adding some rake to a 68 coupe. I bought some shackles for the leif springs that have adjustable holes in them. I have them in the shortest hole if I move to the furthest this should raise the rear up? Is that correct and is this the best way add some rake to her? Thanks for the help.

You handling will diminish as you raise the rear using lifter shackles.

IMO the best way to add a rake is to spend a little money replacing your worn out springs. If you have already replaced/rebuild you suspension lowering the front is place to go for a slight rake look.
Judging from your profile pics here: IMG_1838 Pictures - IMG_1838 Photos - Mustang Picture Gallery - AllFordMustangs.com you look to sit pretty level already, so I would simply pull the front coils and cut 1/4 coil of each and then reassemble, ride around the block, and check your height. If still not low enough take another 1/4 and repeat.

i know im not a specilist but its always been my understnding that cutting the coils is a bad idea and ultimately ends up in a slightly uneven ride and putting undue stress on the rest of the front end and uneven tire wear?. Is there a proper way to do it that im unaware of or was i just misled by a crappy job with the limited experience i have?

Measure twice cut once, tape of the coil and mark it clearly. Use a cut off wheel don't use a torch.

Hello. I was going to say try to fit it in between the weed eaters, but I appears that isn't what he wants to know.

Pull your coils and cut 'em. Cut only about a coil to coil and 1/2 at most. I did my coils on my '73 and have no problems at all. I found that one coil cutting is equal to 3/4 inch drop, it will be different if your coils have more or less fatique. Make sure you take the exact amount off both coils with a cutting wheel not torch. This is the easiest way to get a good "rake" look unless you have money to burn on new lowering coils.

Be careful and use compressors to take out your coils. Wear kevlar and motorcross protective gear if you have to.
